Play Minecraft Online with Friends
The Problem
Minecraft's built-in LAN feature only works when players are on the same local network. Playing with friends over the internet typically requires hosting a dedicated server, configuring port forwarding, or using third-party tools like Hamachi.
The Solution
MoleTun creates a virtual LAN that connects you and your friends as if you're on the same network. The host simply opens their world to LAN, and other players can join directly—no server hosting or port forwarding required.
Setup Guide
Download MoleTun
Get MoleTun for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Installation takes less than a minute.
Create a Room
Open MoleTun and click 'Create Room'. You'll get a 6-digit code to share with friends.
Friends Join the Room
Your friends open MoleTun, click 'Join Room', and enter your code. Everyone is now on the same virtual LAN.
Open to LAN in Minecraft
In Minecraft, press Escape → Open to LAN → Start LAN World. Your friends will see your world in their multiplayer menu.
Minecraft-Specific Settings
- •Default LAN port: 25565 (automatically handled)
- •Both players must use the same Minecraft version
- •Java Edition and Bedrock Edition cannot play together
- •Mods work if all players have identical mod setups
Pro Tips
- •If your friend doesn't see your world, have them click 'Direct Connect' and enter your MoleTun IP address
- •For the best experience, the host should have a stable internet connection
- •Large modpacks may require the Pro tier for extended session times
For modded Minecraft, make sure all players have the exact same mods and versions installed. Forge and Fabric mods are fully supported.
Android Gaming
Minecraft Bedrock Edition runs natively on Android devices. For Java Edition players, you can use x86 emulators like Winlator to run the PC version on Android, enabling gaming on the go with MoleTun.
Does this work with Minecraft mods?▼
Yes! MoleTun works with modded Minecraft as long as all players have the same mods installed. This includes Forge, Fabric, and modpacks.

Yes, MoleTun supports Minecraft Bedrock Edition. However, Java and Bedrock players cannot play together due to game limitations.
How many players can join my Minecraft world?▼
