MoleTun Android Setup Guide
Android Setup Overview
MoleTun on Android enables two powerful use cases:
- •Native Android games with LAN multiplayer
- •PC games via Winlator (x86 emulation) for true cross-platform play
Installation
Download from Play Store
Search "MoleTun" in Google Play Store and install the official app.
Grant Network Permission
On first launch, Android will ask to allow network connection. This is required for the virtual network to work.
Use your MoleTun account or create one. Same account works across all platforms.
Join or Create Room
Enter a room code from a friend or create your own room to host.
Native Android Game Setup
For Android games with LAN support (like Minecraft PE, Terraria Mobile):
- •Connect to your MoleTun room
- •Launch the game
- •Host or join using the MoleTun IP addresses shown in the app
Popular Android LAN Games
- •Minecraft Pocket Edition
- •Terraria Mobile
- •Don't Starve Together (if available)
- •Various indie games with local multiplayer
PC Games via Winlator
Winlator lets you run Windows games on Android. Combined with MoleTun, you can join PC friends in LAN games.
Install Winlator
Download Winlator from its official source (not Play Store). Requires Android 9+ with 64-bit processor.
Set Up Windows Environment
Follow Winlator's setup to create a Windows container. Install your games as you would on PC.
Connect MoleTun First
Launch MoleTun on Android and connect to your room BEFORE starting Winlator.
Launch Game in Winlator
Start your Windows game. It should recognize the MoleTun network for LAN connections.
Games That Work Well
- •Factorio (excellent optimization)
- •Terraria
- •Stardew Valley
- •Older FPS games
- •Strategy games
Performance Tips
- •Use devices with Snapdragon 8 series for best results
- •Close other apps to free RAM
- •Use external controller for better gameplay
- •Enable Winlator's performance mode
Performance varies by device and game. Factorio and Terraria work great on mid-range devices. More demanding games like Valheim need high-end hardware.
Cross-Platform Play
With MoleTun, your Android device can connect with:
- •Windows PCs
- •Mac computers
- •Linux machines
- •Steam Deck
- •Other Android devices
Everyone just needs to be in the same MoleTun room.
Troubleshooting
MoleTun Won't Connect
- •Check internet connectivity
- •Ensure no other networking tool is active
- •Try toggling airplane mode on/off
- •Reinstall the app
Game Can't Find Network
- •Connect MoleTun before launching games
- •Check that you see other room members
- •Some games need restart after MoleTun connects
Winlator Issues
- •Ensure MoleTun is running before Winlator
- •Check Winlator's network settings
- •Try different Winlator versions if network doesn't work
Does MoleTun drain battery quickly?▼
MoleTun uses minimal resources when connected. Active gaming (especially with Winlator) uses more battery, but that's the game, not MoleTun.
Can I play with PC friends from my phone?▼
Yes, that's a main use case. Connect everyone to the same MoleTun room, and you can join their PC games via Winlator or play cross-platform titles natively.
What Android version is required?▼
Android 8+ for MoleTun. Android 9+ with 64-bit processor for Winlator.
Does this work on tablets?▼
Yes. Android tablets work the same way. Larger screen is actually better for PC game emulation via Winlator.
