MoleTun Windows Setup Guide
System Requirements
- •Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- •Internet connection
- •Administrator access (for installation)
Installation
Download MoleTun
Visit the MoleTun website and download the Windows installer (.exe or .msi).
Run Installer
Double-click the downloaded file. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" → "Run anyway".
Allow Network Adapter
MoleTun installs a virtual network adapter. Click "Install" when Windows asks to install the network driver.
Complete Setup
Follow the installer prompts. Default settings work for most users.
First Launch
- •Open MoleTun from the Start menu or desktop shortcut
- •Sign in or create an account
- •Create a room or enter a friend's room code
- •Once connected, you'll see your MoleTun IP address
Windows Firewall Configuration
MoleTun usually configures firewall rules automatically, but if you have issues:
Automatic (Recommended)
The installer should add rules automatically. If games still can't connect, add them manually.
Manual Firewall Rules
- •Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection
- •Click "Allow an app through firewall"
- •Click "Change settings" (requires admin)
- •Click "Allow another app" → Browse to the game executable
- •Check both Private and Public boxes
- •Repeat for MoleTun if not already listed
Network Adapter Verification
To confirm MoleTun is working:
- •Open Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings
- •Look for the MoleTun adapter in the list
- •It should show as "Connected" when in a room
Or via Command Prompt:
ipconfig
Look for an adapter with an IP starting with 10.x.x.x when connected.
Restart your computer after installing MoleTun if games don't recognize the network immediately. This ensures all network components are properly initialized.
Antivirus Considerations
Some antivirus software treats virtual network adapters as suspicious. If MoleTun doesn't work:
- •Check quarantine: Your antivirus may have blocked MoleTun components
- •Add exception: Whitelist the MoleTun installation folder
- •Temporarily disable: Test with antivirus disabled, then add proper exceptions
Common antivirus programs with known interactions:
- •Norton: May block network adapter—add MoleTun to exceptions
- •Kaspersky: Usually works, but check firewall rules
- •Bitdefender: Add MoleTun to allowed apps
- •Windows Defender: Generally works without issues
Uninstallation
If you need to remove MoleTun:
- •Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
- •Find MoleTun and click Uninstall
- •The network adapter is removed automatically
Do I need administrator access?▼
Yes, for installation. MoleTun installs a network adapter which requires admin privileges. After installation, regular user accounts can run it.
Is MoleTun safe for my computer?▼
Yes. MoleTun is signed software that only creates a virtual network interface. It doesn't modify system files or collect personal data.
Can I use MoleTun with other networking tools?▼
Not recommended. Running multiple networking tools causes routing conflicts. Disable other virtual network software when using MoleTun for best results.
Why does Windows SmartScreen warn me?▼
SmartScreen warns about less common downloads. MoleTun is safe—click "More info" → "Run anyway" to proceed.
